USC defensive tackle Antwaun Woods had surgery this afternoon, he revealed on his Instagram account. Woods, the anchor in the middle of the defensive line, injured his chest earlier this week and had to leave practice. It is presumed that this surgery is directly related to that injury since he doesn't have a shirt on and appears to be wearing an arm sling on his left arm. If the surgery was a serious operation (to say repair a torn pectoral muscle), junior Antwaun Woods will be out for the National University Holiday Bowl.
USC freshman safety John Plattenburg only has a thigh contusion after being carted off during Sunday's practice, but the Trojans' secondary is in flux after Gerald Bowman, Leon McQuay III and Su'a Cravens have all suffered recent injuries.
USC head coach Steve Sarkisian isn't ready to close the book on cornerback Josh Shaw just yet. Sarkisian wouldn't rule out a possible return of the redshirt senior, who was suspended after lying to athletic officials about how he sprained his ankles.
With starting left tackle Chad Wheeler out for the season, left guard Toa Lobendahn is taking over rather than Aundrey Walker, who played the position after Wheeler was hurt at Utah. With Lobendah at left tackle, the left guard position is open.
The USC Trojans got some key players back from injury on Wednesday. Adoree' Jackson, Hayes Pullard and Gerald Bowman look to be on track to play Saturday while Ajene Harris, George Farmer, Steven Mitchell and Soma Vainuku are still in question.
