Yesterday the news broke that the USC Trojans had hired former Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury as their new offensive coordinator. Fans, players, and recruits voiced their excitement on social media and we spoke to two of the top commits in USC’s class of 2019, about what has them excited about the hire.

Kedon Slovis is a three-star quarterback out of Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. He committed to Clay Helton and USC back in May and is the Trojans’ lone quarterback commit for next year. He sits as the No. 11 recruit in his state and the No. 26 pro-style quarterback in the country. We asked him for a few of his thoughts on the Kliff Kingsbury hire.

DC: What was your first reaction to the news that Kingsbury was coming to USC and what is one thing that has you most excited about him?

Slovis: I was very excited to hear that we would be getting Coach Kingsbury at USC, and I can’t wait to get the opportunity to play for him. Coach Kingsbury’s offensive reputation is second to none, and I’m really excited to learn from someone who has coached some of the best players in the NFL.

Jude Wolfe is a four-star tight end out of St. John Bosco in Bellflower, California. Wolfe committed to the Trojans back in August, choosing USC over schools such as Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. He is the No. 33 recruit in the state and the No. 9 tight end in the country.

DC: What was your first reaction to the news that Kingsbury was coming to USC and what has you most excited about the hire?

Wolfe: I was very excited to come in and play under Coach Kingsbury, because of what he did at Texas A&M and Texas Tech. I’m most excited to play in a very explosive offense.

DC: When rumors began to swirl that Kingsbury was coming to USC last week, did the staff let you know any details?

Wolfe: I only spoke with the staff about who would be remaining when coaches were being fired.

It is no secret that this is a dream hire for many within the Trojan Family. Not only are recruits and fans excited, but current Trojans as well. Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Keyshawn “Pie” Young voiced his opinion on the Kingsbury news via his Twitter account.

Kingsbury is a home run hire for USC and has given the fanbase something to be excited for in what would have been a dreary offseason after a 5-7 season. Do not be surprised if the Trojans see an onslaught of new commitments in the days leading up to National Signing Day.
