The preseason expectations continue for Stephen Carr as he was named to another watch list. Monday Carr was one of 85 players named to the Maxwell Award list which is given to the best college football player in the nation. On Wednesday afternoon the Sophomore running back was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list.
The Doak Walker award is given to the best running back in the nation and has been in existence since 1990. Carr making the list speaks volumes on his potential this season. During his freshman season, Carr was productive with his speed and agility carrying the ball rushing for 309 yards and 3 touchdowns, however he also battled an ankle injury that kept him out for 4 games. During the spring Carr was forced to miss camp due to back surgery.
Watch lists are just that, however it speaks about the potential of the Sophomore running back. Expect Carr to be at the top of the depth chart this coming fall. If he’s healthy, he can definitely bring a whole new element to the Trojans running game as shown last season. While there are some expectations for Carr, he’ll also have a lot to prove especially coming off of surgery and missing the spring.
