It feels like ages ago that Ma’a Gaoteote made his commitment to the USC Trojans. And that’s not wrong.
Gaoteote committed to USC back in February, 2018, and hasn’t waned since.
He’s the first member of the class of 2021 that now features 18 total commits and is one of the 10-best classes nationally.
Inside ‘backer who made big strides over the course of his junior season. A naturally physical player who can fill a gap and is a punishing hitter. Shows the athleticism to make plays from sideline to sideline and has improved as a pass rusher off the edge as well. Is a strong at the point of attack and does a nice job getting off blocks and making plays. Is patient, doesn’t over pursue and is a finisher. Once he hits you, the play is over and he has improved athletically and playing in space. Can continue to work on drops and coverage but projects as a impact upper tier Power 5 starter and future high round NFL draft pick.
He’s a four-star linebacker from St. John Bosco High School, and though they won’t be defending their 2019 State Championship until at the very earliest January, 2021, we’ve got a bunch of highlights from Gaoteote’s high school career to date.
The @polynesiabowl adds another big-time player for the 2021 game. @IMGAFootball's @MaaGaoteote is one of the best linebackers in high school football. Dude a straight savage! #FightOn ✌— Zack Poff (@Zack_Poff_MP) June 11, 2019
