Following the news that the CIF has postponed the high school sports season for this fall to at least December or January, four-star USC commit from Warren High School in Downey, California Xamarion Gordon has announced he is forgoing his senior season and enrolling early at USC.

I alluded to this as a possibility yesterday following the news from the CIF, and it didn’t take long for Gordon to announce he was doing just that. With upwards of 90% of the high school seniors who signed National Letters of Intent to play college football did so in December of last year, the number of athletes to forgo their final high school season should only continue to grow.
If these players can enrol early in their colleges, there is no doubt they will forgo their final high school seasons. Furthermore, there is likely no real reason and no real benefit to playing a high school season in the spring for those athletes that are going to play FBS or FCS football as they’d be just a few weeks away from enrolling in the summer regardless.
The risk of injury would be too high for nothing to be gained for athletes as the latest they can sign a National Letter of Intent would be in the first week of February.
Gordon is a four-star defensive back and one of the highest-rated commitments for the class of 2021 for the Trojans. His impact will certainly be great in the secondary in 2021 as he stands 6’2, 190 pounds and ranks as the nation’s consensus 19th-best safety prospect. He had nearly 20 scholarship offers and is projected as a Day 3 draft pick as of right now, drawing comparisons of current Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker/safety Deone Bucannon.
He won’t be the last to do so, but he’s definitely in the running to be the first to make this decision in the state, or at least the first to make it so public.
Either way — welcome to the Trojan Family officially, Xamarion! Fight On!
