Xamarion Gordon commits to USC!

The ‘hot streak’ continues

If there was a hot streak during quarantine, we’re witnessing it as USC Trojans head coach Clay Helton rattled off his second commitment in a week for the 2021 recruiting cycle.

It’s a tough time to recruit and a trying time to be a recruit as all in-person communications and activities have ceased due to coronavirus but recruits and coaches are still finding a way to get things done.

This all just leads me to write that Xamarion Gordon is officially a USC TROJAN.

The four-star safety prospect hails from Warren High School in Downey and ranks as the 23rd-best player in the state of California, the 11th-best safety and the 240th-best prospect overall by 247Sports.

He had at least 18 offers and those included Pac-12 rivals Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, Utah and UCLA.

Gordon becomes the sixth commitment for the 2021 class and represents the sixth position group to be committed for next year. He’s a 6’2, 190-pound safety and joins a pro-style quarterback, outside linebacker, defensive tackle, running back and offensive tackle in his class. He’s the fifth player from California and the fourth four-star recruit from in-state by Helton.

Gordon draws comparisons to NFL LB/S Deone Bucannon and projects at an early age a Round 4-7 draft selection in the NFL draft. His writeup from National Recruiting Analyst Greg Biggins on 247Sports:

Versatile and rangy with the ability to play multiple positions in college. Plays safety at the HS level but has the frame to easily bulk up in to an outside ‘backer in college. Is one of the more physical players in the region who can plays with a headhunter mentality. Can fly off the hash and is a big hitter in run support and is an intimidating presence in the passing game as well. Has improved in coverage and in his ability to play in space but can still improve in one on one coverage. Plays very hard and is a highly competitive player with natural leadership ability. Projects as a impact upper tier Power 5 starter and future mid round NFL draft pick.

Love it. Love this class so far.

Keep bringin’ ‘em in Coach!

And Xamarion, welcome to USC! #FightOn!
