With so many stories popping up a week ago about the coronavirus and the COVID-19 pandemic that shut down schools, businesses and sports, it largely went unseen that USC picked up a commitment for the class of 2021. Junipero Serra Catholic School offensive tackle Mason Murphy became the fourth commit for the 2021 class when he pledged his allegiance to head coach Clay Helton and Co.
Murphy stands at 6’6 and 290 pounds as he enters his final season in San Juan Capistrano at JSerra and had offers from the majority of the Pac-12 schools. USC beat out Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon State, Utah, Washington and Michigan from the Big Ten.
A three-star recruit and the 38th-ranked offensive tackle in the country by 247Sports, Murphy is also considered the 36th-best overall prospect in the state. Rivals.com ranks Murphy as the 58th-best tackle in the country and 35th-best prospect in the state.
He announced his commitment on Twitter on March 11.

Certainly looks as if it was his visit he took on March 7 that sealed the deal as Murphy posted on social media just four days prior to his commitment that he had ‘an awesome time.’

Oh, and I’m sure meeting one of the all-time great football players in the world didn’t hurt either.
