Day Three of the draft saw many Trojans get selected, including the Trojan stalwart safety

NCAA Football: Southern California at Arizona Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

USC’s best defensive back of the past two seasons, Marvell Tell III was selected by the Indianapolis Colts at pick 144 of the fifth round in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Measurements: 6’2″ | 198 lbs | 33 1/8 arms | 9 3/4 hands

Bench: 8 reps (Pro Day) |Vertical jump: 42″| Broad: 136″

40 Yard Dash: 4.57 (Pro Day) | 3-Cone Drill: 6.63 | 20-yd Short Shuttle: 4.01

Tell gives the Colts a highly athletic safety who might translate better to cornerback in the NFL given his slender frame. We broke down Tell in our post-combine scouting report:

It might seem like a stretch to some folks, but Tell has the length, athletics, attitude and instincts desired in today’s NFL. Once he gets his tackling mechanics downs and becomes a more consistent tackler, some team is going to have a Pro Bowl-caliber safety.

With a young and rising defense in Indianapolis, Tell will give the Colts an athletic and versatile defensive back who can contribute right away—as his experience and leadership qualities will also make him an asset in the lockeroom.
