Although the USC Trojans didn’t quite live up to preseason expectations, senior forward Bennie Boatwright had a season to remember. With averages of 18.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, Boatwright was one of the lone bright spots on the year. Here is a quick recap on the captain’s best games:
1. USC at CAL Berkeley (February 16, 2019)
Stats: 36 points, 5 rebounds, 10-13 3PT FG
Boatwright was in “Bennie Buckets” mode all game. Coming into the matchup against the California Golden Bears the Trojans were on a three-game losing streak looking for a big win. Luckily, Boatwright delivered. The senior forward made a career high 10 three pointers in just 29 minutes. This game ranks as his best of the year because of his ability to be calm and composed in a tough road environment, against a conference rival. Here are the highlights of his stellar performance:
2. USC at OSU Beavers (January 10, 2019)
Stats: 37 points, 8 rebounds, 14-24 FG
In a 79-74 overtime loss to the Oregon State Beavers, Boatwright was far and away the Trojans’ best player. He scored exactly half of the team’s points and was extremely close to willing his team to victory, until they fell short at the end. What made this game so special was that Boatwright set his career high for points with thirty-seven. If only the Trojans had provided a little bit of support to the senior forward, they might have come out victorious. However, this performance still ranks among his top games of the season. 3. USC at UCLA (February 28, 2019)
Stats: 25 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 7-17 3PT FG
In Boatwright’s last game against crosstown rival UCLA, he put on an absolute show. In a hard fought 93-88 loss in overtime, Boatwright provided steady scoring and rebounding in a game where he was on triple double watch, missing it by a mere four assists. Throughout the game, Boatwright hit one big shot after another and kept the Trojans afloat until the very end. You can see his highlights here:
Overall, it was a great season for the senior forward. He was a player that worked hard every game in each of the four years that he was at USC. He is someone that the program is going to miss dearly. We wish Boatwright the best as he pursues a career in professional basketball.
