USC Football has endured a lot during the last few weeks, now things just got even worse for them by losing their highest rated recruit in Bru McCoy. The five star athlete entered his name into the transfer portal just days after enrolling into USC per ESPN’s Tom VanHarren. All signs are pointing to McCoy transferring to Texas, which was the other school in his top two before the All-American game.

McCoy committed to USC during the All-American game back on January 5, making him the highest rated player in the Trojans 2019 recruiting class. It was announced that the Mater Dei product signed his letter of intent and would be enrolling early at USC. News of McCoy wanting to transfer started up on Wednesday and was brought to light by Adam Maya of Trojansports.com. McCoy will have to sit out a year due to him already starting classes at USC just two weeks ago. McCoy could explore being granted a waiver to play right away, however that could be a longshot as USC did not lose their head coach and the waiver doesn’t work for coordinators or assistant coaches departing.

There could be multiple reasons for why this is taking place. Kliff Kingsbury was the offensive coordinator at the time McCoy made his decision, however just a few days later Kingsbury left USC to take the Arizona Cardinals head coaching job. USC also has yet to hire a replacement at offensive coordinator, giving them no direction on the offensive side of the ball. With all the dysfunction at USC, the toxic atmosphere and uncertainty could also play a factor his transfer.

A tweet from current USC Trojans linebacker Hunter Echols told everything that fans feared in terms of a transfer.

The McCoy news adds to the drama that has hit USC through out the month. With recruits decommitting and Kingsbury departure to name the few, things are not looking so great at the university at all levels. You start to wonder and question the job that Lynn Swann and Clay Helton is doing at USC. Once again another black eye to the USC Football program and just weeks before National Signing Day.
