Baseball season is around the corner and with that comes rankings for the best collegiate players in the nation.
Head coach Dan Hubbs and USC Baseball will be looking to improve on their less than stellar 2018 season where they went 26-28. To get the hype train rolling early, two USC Trojans made D1 Baseball’s list detailing the Top 50 MLB Draft eligible pitchers and hitters in the NCAA.
Pitcher Kyle Hurt is ranked as D1 Baseball’s No. 20 pitching prospect, while teammate Blake Sabol is the No. 33 hitting prospect. Hurt, a freshman from Torrey Pines High School in Rancho Santa Fe, California, was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week after throwing a no hitter against the Utah Utes last March.
Sabol, a sophomore out of Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, California led the Trojans in slugging percentage with .425 and was named an All Pac-12 honorable mention. Sabol also led the team with eight stolen bases on the year.
Last season, USC went 12-18 in conference and 15-15 at home. With Hurt and Sabol leading the charge, the Trojans hope to make the 2019 College World Series for the first time since 2001.
