USC basketball is back in action tonight at home against the Washington State Cougars in the Galen Center. You can also watch on the Pac-12 Network, live stream it on Pac-12 Live or listen on Tune In.
What is on the line in tonight’s game for USC basketball:
USC absolutely needs to win tonight to both end their 4-game losing streak and to keep their hopes of making the NCAA tournament alive. CBS and USA Today are projecting USC basketball to miss the tournament while ESPN currently has them at an 11 seed. A 3-game losing streak to three of the 10 best teams in the nation is certainly understandable, but the loss to a struggling Arizona State team is brutal. The timing is bad too as a 4-game losing streak at the end of February is really hurting the Trojans right now. If this losing streak extends to 5 games tonight with another sub-.500 team then the Trojans may need to win the Pac-12 tournament in order to get into the postseason.
USC is ice cold coming into tonight’s game:
The last time these two teams met was on February 4th when the Trojans took down the Cougars on the road 86-77. Since that game USC has gone an abysmal 1-4 and have not won a basketball game in almost three weeks. Washington State on the other hand has gone 2-3 since that last meeting but has won their last two games beating the Washington Huskies and the Arizona State Sun Devils. USC basketball needs to be every bit as good in March as they were bad in February.
USC basketball may well be in playoff mode right now:
There are 2 regular season games left on the USC Trojans basketball schedule counting tonight’s game with Washington State. Both of these are must win games for the Trojans to have any hopes of a playing in the post season. If the Trojans drop any of these last two game to sub par teams then only a Pac-12 championship or a very deep run in the tournament may get them a slot in the NCAA Tournament. Quite frankly, even if they do sweep the Washington schools this week they may still need a deep Pac-12 Conference tournament run to keep their postseason hopes alive.
