Levi Jones to USC: OLB recruit signs with Trojans

USC picks up an elite Linebacker on National Signing Day 2017

NCAA Football: Rose Bowl Game-Penn State vs Southern California Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

OLB Levi Jones signed with the USC Trojans this morning over the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, and the UCLA Bruins. Jones is a big get for the Trojans as he can come in and play from day one. At 6’3 and a little over 215 pounds, Jones has the ideal size for an outside linebacker and his speed will be a fantastic tool for DC Clancy Pendergast’s scheme.

247 Sports has the Austin, Texas native as the 6th rated outside linebacker in the class and one of the top 100 players in the country. Most experts assumed that Florida State was the heavy favorite for Jones but he opted to head west to the Trojans instead.

USC Defensive Coordinator Clancy Pendergast uses a defensive scheme that requires more linebackers than more traditional defensive schemes. As a result the Trojans could almost always use the services of another elite linebacker. Jones makes another excellent addition to the class and will help bump up the Trojans up the class rankings.
