The Buckeyes and Trojans will meet again. Should we call this the Texas Rose Bowl? Perhaps the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Bowl is more appropriate?

In continuing with a season of things USC has not done since Pete Carroll was in charge, after winning their First Pac-12 Championship since 2008, the USC Trojans ranked 8th will take on the 5th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in the 82nd Annual Cotton Bowl Classic. These two teams last played in 2009.

How the Bowl Selection Process played out today:

The final College Football Playoff Committee Rankings are in and the USC Trojans are ranked 8th after defeating the Stanford Cardinal in the Pac-12 Conference Championship Game. Normally this would earn the Trojans another trip to the Rose Bowl but the The Granddaddy of Them All is a Playoff semifinal game this year. So while the Georgia Bulldogs against the Oklahoma Sooners is definitely a rare moment in Rose Bowl history and certainly one of the most intriguing games in the history of the game.

Multi billion dollar contractsfor Bowl Games, the playoffs, and TV rights, notwithstanding the powers that be still wanted the Pac-12 Champion taking on the Big 10 Champion even if the Rose Bowl was otherwise occupied. Initially the Fiesta Bowl was the projected target for the OSU vs. USC matchup but the Committee does not like to keep sending teams and their fans to the same places year after year they try to mix it up. The Buckeyes have been to the Fiesta Bowl the last two years and the CFP Committee did not want to send them back for a third consecutive time. Consequently they moved the their game with USC to Texas to play in the Cotton Bowl Classic.
