The future is bright for the USC Trojans as their redshirt freshman phenom, Sam Darnold had the performance of his life earlier this week in the Rose Bowl. Darnold tallied 453 yards through the air while adding an incredible 5 touchdowns, including a clutch dart between two defenders to set up the extra point to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. His performance has shaken up the college football world, already prompting early hype for next year’s Heisman race. He’s also attracted some NFL buzz as Twitter marveled over his playmaking ability and pinpoint accuracy.
All signs point toward the Trojans participating in the big dance next season, led by their superstar quarterback. Having said that, there will still be questions next season that need to be answered, such as the defensive front. Will the front seven improve from this season? Some will say that was the weakest part of the team this year.
How can the Trojan’s compensate for the loss off Adoree Jackson (should they need to)? His playmaking ability as a cornerback, punt returner, kick returner, and offensive wildcard will not be duplicated. USC will have to find athletes to fill Jackson’s shoes and it goes without saying, that those are not easy shoes to fill.
At the end of the day, the Trojans’ look to have a really bright future, in large part due to quarterback Sam Darnold. The entire team displayed an incredible amount of persistence and a will to win, which speaks volumes about the coaching staff. There were early questions about Head Coach Clay Helton but I think he’s done enough to quiet the naysayers for now.
Congratulations USC Trojans and thank you for a great season!
