Helton and the team are looking forward to getting back into the Coliseum. As noted yesterday USC Center Toa Lobendahn will miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury. According to Helton, Lobendahn will have a good shot at a medical redshirt for the year. Nico Falah will be the next man up against Utah State. Behind Falah is Cole Smith and Chris Brown. Helton is confident in Nico Falah’s ability to fill in at center based on his performance at center last season against UCLA.
Further injury updates included Noah Jefferson being doubtful for Saturday’s game because of a shoulder injury. Khaliel Rodgers is 50/50 for Utah State because of a hamstring injury. Chad Wheeler will see limited action on Saturday but should see more action than he did against Alabama. Helton will start Saturday’s game with Sophomore Chuma Edoga at tackle and work wheeler in.
Thursday’s practice was spent working the game plan for the red zone. Last week against Alabama the Trojans ran all of 1 play inside the red zone so there is not much game film to look at as to how the offense will perform in the red zone.
Helton is concerned about the dual-threat quarterback for Utah State. He also found their scheme that maximizes the abilities of their starting QB and RB referring to them as an “electric duo”.
