Our friends at Roll ‘Bama Roll, SB Nation’s home for all things Alabama Crimson Tide broke down in depth the matchup between USC wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster and Alabama’s top two cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Minkah Fitzpatrick. It is an in depth look at the strengths and weaknesses of all three players as well as a prediction as to how the matchup will unfold during the game. I strongly recommend giving it a read here.

“As good as Smith-Schuster is at the short to intermediate routes, his strongest asset is his ability to track the ball downfield and go up and get it. It would not be surprising to see USC test Humphrey or Fitzpatrick down the field early in order to put them on their heels and loosen up the defense as a whole.

Smith-Schuster is extremely hard to handle when running vertical concept routes because of his ability to set up defensive backs downfield. Both Fitzpatrick and Humphrey need to be aware of how USC’s offense might try to exploit them early.”

While Juju is insanely talented and should be able to make plays against the Alabama defense Roll ‘Bama Roll ultimately concludes that it will actually be Max Browne that is the determining factor in this positional matchup between Juju and the Alabama secondary. According to RBR if Browne’s inexperience will make him a target of the Alabama defense that will key in on the QB leaving Browne unable to capitalize upon any matchup advantages Juju Smith-Schuster will be able to provide.
