Preseason college football rankings: USC ranks No. 20 in AP Poll

The Trojans will have to play sever ranked opponents.

NCAA Football: Holiday Bowl-Southern California vs Wisconsin Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The first Associated Press poll of the season is out and USC is ranked number 20. Several USC opponents also found themselves in the top 25 providing further evidence that the Trojans have the toughest schedule in the country. Alabama ranks number 1 and Stanford is at 8. Notre Dame came in ranked at 10th, Washington 14, UCLA 16, and Oregon 24th. If you are keeping track at home that is two top ten opponents away from home in the first 3 weeks of the season for new quarterback Max Browne.

It is important to remember that the AP poll officially has no bearing on the playoff committee. Furthermore, a preseason poll is largely meaningless because no one has played a single down of football yet. Preseason polls can, however provide a bit of a snapshot of what the voters think of teams and their expectations. You can see the full results below.
