Providence ran a great inbounds play to beat USC in the final seconds

Despite the wasted opportunities and the torrent of missed free throws USC still had a chance to win the game at the end with a defensive stop.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

A missed defensive assignment allows Providence the go ahead shot to beat USC in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

"After controlling the tempo of the game nearly throughout, the #8 Trojans (21-13) completely collapsed in the final few minutes, culminating in a defensive breakdown that led to the game-winning layup for Providence. With the Trojans ahead 69-68 with 3 seconds to go and no timeouts for either team, Rodney Bullock got free right under the hoop and put in a layup on an out-of-bounds play to win the game for the Friars, 70-69."
