From "USC Trojans in the NFL: Denver Broncos acquire Mark Sanchez":
"With the retirement of Peyton Manning and the recent defection of Brock Osweiler to the Houston Texans, the Broncos were left with a gaping hole at the QB position. Furthermore, free agency has not been kind to the reigning Super Bowl champions as they lost Malik Jackson, Danny Trevathan, and C.J. Anderson. This move is a stop gap at the QB position that enables the Broncos to put an experienced, former starter in a position that needs veteran leadership. While there are other free agent speculations such as picking up RG3 or Colin Kaepernick, Sanchez's contract will not break the bank and bide time for the Broncos to find a QB via the draft. He is joined by Trevor Siemian as the backup QB."
