USC fullback Soma Vainuku had a lot to prove this week, but the former Trojan showed up ready to perform. Vainuku finished third among all running backs and fullbacks in bench press reps, completing a total of 26, according to Reign of Troy. The site also pointed out that though the performance is impressive, his success is not necessarily just tied to strength and size. Vainuku will have to prove his technical ability as well when it comes to securing blocks.
Vainuku excelled in other areas as well this past week. Measuring in at 5-11 and 246 pounds, Vainuku ran the 40 yard dash in 4.68, putting him solidly in the middle of the pack for speed. Fellow Trojan Tre Madden did not run the 40 yard dash.
According to Vainuku's most recent draft profile, he will need to demonstrate improvement in a few areas in order to maximize his draft potential, most notably his value in the passing game and avoiding penalties. However, his participation on special teams still makes him a valuable player.
