Ed Orgeron will get the opportunity with the LSU Tigers that he was denied by the USC Trojans. Today LSU announced that Ed Orgeron will have the interim tag removed from his title after allegedly impressing the administration with his long term plans for the future of LSU football.

Rumors and unconfirmed reports from unnamed sources had leaked that LSU had fully intended to hire Houston Cougars head Coach Tom Herman. We have since found out that LSU was scheduled to speak with Tom Herman today, but when Herman said he was going to speak with Texas first, LSU decided to move on.

Many thought Orgeron had little to no shot at getting the LSU job after losing to both Alabama and Florida but the Tigers have since gone 5-2 since firing Les Miles which was apparently good enough to get the job. Orgeron had a similar record during his stint as interim head coach at USC. Orgeron’s two losses that year unfortunately were to Notre Dame and UCLA. Then USC Athletic Director Pat Haden opted to go a different direction hiring Steve Sarkisian prompting Orgeron to resign from the Trojans.
