Big plays early
Rivalries like this one can always be unpredictable, therefore, it would be smart for the Trojans to try to attack deep downfield as early as possible. USC is the clear favorite to win this game because of the hot streak they have been on over the last 6 games. However, these streaks can be simmered down by a team with nothing to lose, just ask the Washington Huskies. Throwing the first haymaker early should set the tone for this contest, which would force the Bruins back on their heels.
Control the Clock
USC should emphasize controlling time of possession, this will prohibit UCLA from feeding off of momentum from their 38-24 victory over Oregon State last weekend. Forcing their defense to spend a ton of time on the field could result in their offense feeling pressure to score, which can lead to big mistakes. The Trojans have shown ability to control the clock, even though their offense runs best when the tempo is high. If USC gains a two touchdown lead, expect to see slower paced offensive approach.
Take the Ball
Struggling teams normally have a tendency to lose their cool when huge mistakes come into play. The Trojans have been playing great defense as of late which increases their chances to capitalize on mistakes by the Bruins. Applying pressure to the quarterback could result into some fruitful opportunities for SC’s dangerous secondary.
