Last night the Trojans went into a hostile Husky Stadium in Seattle, Washington and walked out with a 26-13 victory. The win wasn’t just your average win, USC made a statement against the 4th ranked Washington Huskies. The win not only extended their winning streak, but it further showed how far the Trojans have come since the beginning of the season. When the month of September ended USC was 1-3, questions were floating around about the state of the program, and fingers were being pointed at head coach Clay Helton.
There were questions on if he was the right man for the job or if he’ll even survive the year as the USC head football coach. Things were looking very murky for USC Football, however the team and Helton wouldn’t cave in. As soon as the month of October came, a turnaround would begin. It started with a complete game against a then ranked Arizona State team. The team continued to march forward and never looked back. Game by game the team continued to improve and left it all out there when they played. It’s time to give Clay Helton and USC their credit. They’re playing just as well as anyone in the nation and Clay Helton has managed to get the players to continue to buy in. Saturday night the whole nation saw results against a potential College Football Playoff team on the road. Had USC not drop that game to Utah back in September, we would be talking about them potentially playing in the Playoffs.
It could’ve been easy for USC to just fold at 1-3, but Clay Helton saw to it that it wouldn’t happen and the players continued to believe in him. All of it showed with a dominant performance in Seattle. Many saw it as an upset; USC saw it as a statement win that they were supposed to make. This isn’t the completion of their turn around as they still have to finish business against their two rivals in UCLA and Notre Dame. USC is playing like their a top 4 team in the nation right now and it’s time for the rest of the country to take notice, it’s time to give Clay Helton the credit he deserves and buy in.
