Clay Helton went on Trojans Live Monday night and discussed a variety of topics around USC football. Helton provided his normal assessment of the Cal Bears and what the Trojans will need to do in order to find success. Towards the end of the interview Helton was asked about the identity of his team. Helton said that what he really loved about his offense was the balance between the run and the pass. He further elaborated that the offense’s balance is what makes them dangerous right now.
Helton was also asked how much Cal’s defensive shortcomings are going to alter his game plan or move them away from their balance. His response was that Tee Martin and Tyson Helton have done a great job sticking to their identity and scheme but were also able to work within that scheme to adjust to opposing defenses. Clay Helton also praised their ability to make in game adjustments on offense.
One other interesting note was that Helton suggested that he intends to be ultra aggressive against Cal. The Bears can score a ton of points but their defense leaves plenty to be desired. Helton further stated that field goals probably will not be enough to win this game so he wants Tee Martin and Tyson Helton to be thinking 4 down territory anywhere inside the 35.
