Clay Helton started his Q and A by praising his team’s progress once again. He was pleased that the team continued to reduce the mistakes and turnovers while upping the number of takeaways. Sam Darnold did a much better job protecting the football against Arizona as compared to Colorado. Coach Helton said Darnold did a much better job about getting down when he decided to create with his legs and that has made a huge difference.
Juju Smith-Schuster took a helmet to the back against Arizona. Coach Helton said they will rest him during the bye week so that he can get healthy in time for the game against the Cal Bears.
Regarding Cal, Helton said that they will put up plenty of points and yards and that the Trojans will have to try to match that offensive production. Helton also said that once again the Trojans defense will need to work to get the Bears’ quarterback Davis Webb off his spot.
The Trojans are going to use the bye week to get a couple of days ahead on preparing for Cal, according to Helton. Younger players are also going to get extra reps this week during the off week practices in order to help develop the future of the program.
