Justin Davis had been the feature back for the Trojans this season and many were concerned about the USC rushing attack when Davis went down with a high ankle sprain. Ronald Jones II had showed explosive potential last season but had not really found a rhythm in the backfield this season. All of that seemed to change on the opening possesion of the game against USC.
The Trojans got the ball first and immediately Sam Darnold took a deep shot down field to Juju Smith-Schuster. When they could not connect the Trojans went right to Ronald Jones who went to work leading the Trojans down the field on a ten play drive that chewed 4 and a half minutes of game clock. The drive culminated in a touchdown run by Rojo giving the Trojans the 7-0 lead much to the delight of the injury Justin Davis:
