The past couple of weeks have been true tests of faith for the USC Trojans. With a shaky start to the season and doubt being thrown around about the potential of your team, it’s easy to fold. Regardless of what USC has faced early on in the season, they continue to stick by their slogan to “Fight On to Victory.”
.. and what a victory in need.
Let’s just say, Sam Darnold is here to stay. The chemistry between Sam and JuJu is quite the sight to see. The pair make it seem as though Darnold was the go to QB from the get go. Sam Darnold easily became a fan favorite tonight, and was able to grasp the trust in successfully leading the Trojans for the next few years. Since his move to the starting Quarterback position, he has been able to transition and change the dynamic of USC’s offense.
Arizona State wasn’t expecting such a strong defensive effort tonight from USC. The Trojans defense brought the pressure and the heat from the very start. Jonathan Lockett had some great defensive plays attempting to go for two picks of the night, but nearly missing it. Interception after interception. It was nice to see the Trojans get their groove back.
USC averaged close to nine yards per play. However, by halftime, the Trojans were leading ASU 27-6. By this time, we started to get familiarized with what SC football is all about.
Although it was great to see the Trojans turning their scenario around play by play.. .there was one factor to consider going into the second half— ASU and their well known comebacks.
But have no fear, JuJu Smith-Schuster is here!
With 11:11 in the third, JuJu made a huge play and takes it 67 yards for his third touchdown of the night. Defeating ASU mentally and physically, putting USC ahead 34-6. Soon after, Sophomore TE Tyler Petite gets the first down for 25 and right after that, Sam Darnold was able to get upfield to get a rushing touchdown putting USC ahead 41-6.
By the end of the third, it was still all USC— which is exactly what we had hoped to see. Arizona State hadn’t really played any true contenders leading up to tonight’s game, needless to say— the Trojans knew what they were up against and tonight they came to play.
The final was 41-20 to end a successful night at the Coliseum , and although USC still has some ground to make, we are definitely in a better place now— than we were previously.
