The USC Trojans were trailing Arizona State 3-0 in the first quarter when Clay Helton decided (possibly because he was tired of the critiques about his punting decisions) to go for it on 4th and short on the Trojans’ side of the field. The 4th down try was blown up and went for a loss.
On the ensuing Sun Devils possession they took a shot deep but defensive back Jonathan Lockett came up with a big time over the shoulder interception.
On 3rd and 7 Johnathan Lockett picks off Wilkins. USC NEEDED that.

The Trojans turned around and marched the ball right down the field with a huge boost from Justin Davis who busted out a 49 yard run to put the Trojans in prime position for the touchdown. Sam Darnold finished off the drive with a smooth play-action pass to Juju Smith-Schuster for the touchdown. Trojans took the lead 7-3.
Darnold ➡️ Smith-Schuster gets the Trojans on the board!
