USC tight end Connor Spears announced on instagram today that he will not be returning to the Trojans' football team. Spears said that stepping away from USC football was one of the hardest decisions in his life.

The full statement on instagram:

"This past week I made one of the hardest decisions I've had to make in stepping away from the football team here at USC. It's been an absolute dream come true, but my family and I feel that it's best if I focus on the next stage of my life at this time. I want to thank the University of Southern California, Coach Helton and the countless others that made these several years such a memorable experience. My dream was to play football for USC and I accomplished this goal I set for myself so many years ago. Thanks for all the support! #FightOn"

Spears did not say what the next stage of his life will focus on but the Columbia transfer did not see any passes thrown to him this season despite playing in all 14 games for the Trojans. Spears was also, you may remember, stuck in an airport nightmare after going home to visit his mother before the Holiday Bowl.

The USC depth chart at tight end still features Taylor McNamara, Tyler Petite, and Daniel ImatorbhebheCary Angeline a 4-star tight end recruit who verbally committed back in June is also likely to be in the mix. Highly unlikely to be on the USC depth chart is Bryce Dixon who was dismissed from the team, and arrested earlier in the week for carjacking.
