USC football just keeps racking up the big time recruits, landing wide receiver Velus Jones a 5'11 181lb speedster out of Saraland, Alabama. Jones hauled in 51 catches, 1,180 yards, and nine touchdowns as a junior at Saraland High School this past season.
Jones is a big body receiver that has top end speed, running a 4.4 40. Jones verbally committed to USC over top schools such as UCLA, Florida, Cincinnati and others. The big time recruit is ranked as the nation's 64th wide receiver and the 11th prospect in Alabama's 2016 class.
Velus will join a talented 2016 recruiting class that contains big time commits such as offensive lineman Frank Martin II, all-purpose back Melquise Stovall, and outside linebacker Mique Juarez. Velus Jones possesses great route running ability and can get separation from defenders that dare to play man on. Jones has the speed to outrun defenders and his competiveness allows him to make big plays.
USC has a group of talented young receivers that will be continuing to build with Nelson Agholor headed off to the NFL. Wide receiver coach Tee Martin has done an outstanding job in recruiting and getting his receiving core prepared for the big task at hand.
Jones will have a talented group of receivers to learn from once he steps on campus with the likes of Steven Mitchell and super athlete Adoree' Jackson there to mentor and compete with. Velus Jones brings hard work and a great attitude to Coach Sarkisian's improved offense along with amazing talent.
