As Leonard Williams prepares to be one of the top picks in this year's NFL Draft, it certainly doesn't hurt to listen to the words of one of the best players in the NFL. J.J. Watt visited USC's campus during Williams' time there, and even gave the Trojan defensive linemen some advice on their technique.
"He even came onto the field and tried to teach us some pass rush moves," said Williams. On succeeding in the NFL, Watt later told Williams,"Make sure you know your playbook. Once you know everything you're doing on the field, you're not thinking, you're just playing."
Williams acknowledged his admiration of Watt in another interview. "A guy I look at a lot is J.J. Watt. He's been one of the best defensive players in the league for the last few years. He's also very versatile like I see myself."
You can see both interviews of Leonard Williams here.
While Williams and Watt certainly share some characteristics, such as length and power, Williams obviously has a long way to go to prove he's even in the same ballpark as Watt as an NFL player. Still, it's good to see Big Cat seeking advice in the right places. Check out my draft profile of Leonard Williams if you'd like to read more about how his skill set will translate to the NFL level.
