We are expanding! . . . Now onto the links.
The biggest news by far, of course, is that Clay Helton was named the official head coach of the USC Trojans Football team yesterday, dropping the 'interim' from his title and signing a five-year deal in the process.
On the site, Trajuan Briggs writes about his immediate reaction to the news, and him and Julian Lopez highlight some of the player's tweets that showcased how clearly unanimous and well-received the decision was amongst the the team. You can also catch the full press conference right here.
Around the web, everyone has a different take on the situation. Sports Illustrated calls it the right decision, with ESPN calling it a matter of good timing. Fox Sports is also complimentary, including past head coach Pete Carroll's well wishes for the new permanent head coach.
CBS Sports focused on Pat Haden's press release, which emphasized Helton's integrity. The LA Times took a deeper dive on the coaching development, citing Pat Haden's trust that above all Clay Helton will be able to win championships at USC. Of course, we might not have to wait long to see if that's true.
