USC Basketball: Trojans welcome the Monmouth Hawks

They are from West Long Branch, New Jersey and just beat UCLA in Westwood this past Friday.

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

After a blowout victory over the University of San Diego last Friday, USC Men's Basketball (1-0) is back in action as they welcome the Monmouth Hawks (1-0). Monmouth is coming off of 84-81 victory over UCLA while USC beat USD, 83-45.

Previewing Monmouth:

In his fifth year with the program, Monmouth head coach King Rice has the program heading upward. Rice's Hawks won 18 games last year, their most since the 2005-06 season when they went 19-15 and made it into the NCAA Tournament. The Hawks are led by guards Deon Jones (12.8 points per game last year) and Justin Robinson (led team with 13.4 points per game in 2014-15). Robinson might be only 5'8", but he gave the Bruins a lot of trouble on Friday as was second on the team with 16 points and three assists and was a pest on the defensive side of the ball with a game-high six steals. Monmouth had 16 steals and forced 23 turnovers in their upset victory.

It's interesting to note that both Monmouth and USC will be playing in the AdvoCare Invitational that begins in a week.
