After several unfortunate events involving Steve Sarkisian culminating in an incident yesterday at practice, USC Athletic Director Pat Haden has officially terminated Steve Sarkisian. Here is the official announcement:
""After careful consideration of what is in the best interest of the university and our student-athletes, I have made the decision to terminate Steve Sarkisian, effective immediately.
"I want to thank Clay Helton for stepping into the interim head coach role, and I want to add how proud I am of our coaching staff and players and the way they are responding to this difficult situation.
"Through all of this we remain concerned for Steve and hope that it will give him the opportunity to focus on his personal well being.""
Steve Sarkisian will now be able to hopefully take care of himself outside of the national spotlight. Sarkisian was less than dominant as the head coach of the Washington Huskies and 12-6 as head coach of the Trojans. The low point (on the field) was Thursday night in a baffling loss to his former team. Off the field the Salute to Troy event turned out to be much more of an issue than the University initially had us believe.
USC once again is in search of a new coach with Clay Helton stepping in as interim head coach. The Trojans travel to South Bend to take on Notre Dame this Saturday.
