Women of Troy Drop Tough Game to No. 11 Oregon State

USC is now 1-2 to start Pac-12 conference play.

The USC Women of Troy (9-5, 1-2) battled back and forth against the No. 11 Oregon State Beavers, but their effort came up short on Monday night in a 76-66 loss at the Galen Center. USC trailed 38-33 at the break, scratching and clawing their way back into the basketball game against a physical, good shooting squad that has lost just one game all season.

The Women of Troy were led by their veteran scoring leader on offense. Senior Alexyz Vaioletama matched her career high in scoring with 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

Sadly for USC, not many other players did well from the field, other than freshman Kristen Simon, who scored 14 points off the bench as a tough Oregon State defense limited USC to just 41-percent shooting from the field. USC did score 20 points from Oregon State turnovers, and notched 20 points from the bench in a balanced effort.

The Beavers were led by four players in double figures, and also hit 10 shots from behind the arc. What also killed USC was the 47-percent effort (10-21) from behind the arc, including some timely buckets in the second half when the Women of Troy cut the lead to four, gave the Pac-12's top squad another huge road win.

Oregon State led for all but one minute of the game, but the Women of Troy hung around for much of the basketball game. After beating the Beavers to secure the 2014 Pac-12 Championship, USC played confidently all night long.

Here are the final highlights from the Pac-12 conference loss at the Galen Center before they face Colorado on Friday night.
