The USC Trojans have been voted as the number one fan base in the country according to USA TODAY Sports College Football Fan Index. In a discussion that could take place each and every week of the college football season, the support down Trousdale leading up to the raucous Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum experience has been acclaimed the nation's best fan base.
The College Football Fan Index is an in-depth ranking of the top college football fan bases as determined through social chatter aggregation and online fan voting across weekly editorial fan-driven themes. Remember this great moment against Stanford.
USC leads the charge followed by SEC programs Tennessee and Texas A&M, then Michigan at No. 4 while Pac-12 rival Oregon maintained the No. 5 overall position.
Given the nearly 350,000 alumni powering the Trojan Family, the recent social media upswing (295,204 social mentions) around USC's program sounds about right --especially while plenty of on and off-the field news has taken over in the national conversation.
The USA TODAY index, launched prior to this season, is measured based on the social activity of each school's fan base, as well as the voting results of weekly themed polls that ask fans to determine which schools offer the best fan experience
The Fan Index has created direct alignment with more than 100 NCAA FBS schools and their social media networks (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, etc.). USC Football sure has quite the appeal to audiences both young and old.
The Trojans return home in late September to host the Oregon State Beavers in USC's Pac-12 home opener and will also host Cal Berkeley in a Thursday night showcase before hosting rival Notre Dame on November 29th to end the regular season.
