Through his lawyer, Donald Etra, USC cornerback Josh Shaw released the following statement:
On Sat., Aug. 23rd, I injured myself in a fall. I made up a story about this fall that was untrue. I was wrong to not tell the truth. I apologize to USC for this action on my part.
My coaches, USC AD, and especially coach Sarkisian have all been supportive of me during my college career.
This statement was made just shortly after the USC athletic department issued a press release stating Shaw had come to USC athletic officials and admitted to fabricating the heroic tale we all fell for on Monday.
In USC's press release, head coach Steve Sarkisian said Shaw "let us all down." Sarkisian has also suspended the fifth-year senior from all team activities indefinitely.
