2014 NFL Draft Prospect: "Silent But Deadly" Morgan Breslin

Only playing in five games last season due to injury, the silent but deadly pass rusher prepares for what could be an intriguing NFL Draft weekend following his two-year Trojan career. Breslin, who finished last season with 4.5 sacks, will be waiting alongside fellow pass-rushing specialist Devon Kennard as USC's outside linebacker prospects heading to the NFL.

COLLEGE CAREER

Morgan Breslin transferred to USC from Diablo Valley Community College (Calif.), ending his career as the states leading sack artist and tackler in both 2010 and 2011. In his first season for USC Breslin was equally impressive, recording 62 tackles, including a team-high 19.5 for losses (107 yards). Where he really made his name however was rushing the quarterback, where he ended the season tied fifth in the nation with 13 sacks.

Following his All-Pac-12 second team selection in 2012, Breslin was not quite able to elevate his draft status after suffering through an injury plagued season. Breslin is currently working on a full transition from 4-3 defensive end to the 3-4 outside linebacker type role that can thrive as a situational pass rusher on third downs.

COMBINE ANALYSIS

Breslin, who typically goes without saying anything on even the hardest pressed issues, was outraged over the fact that he was not invited to attend the NFL Draft Combine.

While not being selected, Breslin told FoxSports.com "I always had a huge chip on my shoulder, but now I have even more to prove. I'm really looking forward to my pro day. I honestly thought I should've got an invite to the combine. I was pretty pissed about that."

Finally getting his chance in front of pro scouts during USC's Pro Day on March 12th, Breslin posted positive but not overwhelming numbers for his possible position group.

Morgan Breslin is projected to be selected in either the 7th round overall, or land on an NFL squad as an unrestricted free agent following this weekend's draft. As the No. 299th player overall according to CBS Sports, Breslin is placed in a unique position where maybe going undrafted could actually provide him the best flexibility moving forward.

CBS Sports' Rob Rang feels that while Breslin is ranked outside the top 25 for OLB, his healthy and fully-functioning return could elevate him significantly among this position group. While always hard to fully project, watch out for a possible reunion with assistant head coach Monte Kiffin in Dallas, who featured Breslin on defense back in 2012.

Considering that Breslin's ability to rush the quarterback has been his greatest asset as an NFL prospect, the hip and ankle injuries could very well cause NFL teams to hesitate in the first three rounds, which is where his tape indicated he could have been selected. If he's able to fully rebound with no lingering effects, he could end up a mid-to-late round steal.
