Don't miss any of the college football action this weekend. With USC facing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Golden Domers at 12:30, you will have an opportunity to check out a bunch of games in primetime.
Here's the best games to catch on Thursday, Friday and each of the main Saturday time slots:
Thursday night: No. 5 TCU at Texas
While digesting your turkey, see if Texas can cause some havoc in the College Football Playoff picture. It seems so long ago that the Longhorns were the top 5 program with TCU trying to be upstart little underdog. But Charlie Strong does have Texas starting to head in the right direction. It has won three straight heading into this week. The other game on the schedule could be good between two previously overrated SEC schools in LSU and Texas A&M. Two bad teams can produce a good game, right?
Friday afternoon: Stanford at No. 8 UCLA
The Pac-12 South will be determined Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, USC won't have a shot, but it should be an exciting conclusion nonetheless. Can Stanford knock off UCLA? It doesn't seem likely, but no one has really excelled when sitting in the Pac-12 South driver's seat. If the Cardinal somehow get a lead, you'll need to flip over to the Arizona/Arizona State game that will be taking place simultaneously. In other conference races, the SEC East will be decided when Arkansas, who has shut out LSU and Ole Miss in its last two games, takes on No. 17 Missouri. Win and the Tigers are in the SEC Championship. Lose and Georgia gets in.
Friday night: Virginia at Virginia Tech
After three straight losses, Virginia Tech knocked off a ranked Duke team only to play one of the most inept offensive games in recent history against Wake Forest. The Hokies and Demon Deacons combined for zero points in regulation and settled for a 6-3 Wake Forest victory in double overtime. On the other side, Virginia had lost four consecutive before dominating Miami last week. Rivalry games are always fun, but the winner of this game gets to .500 while the loser won't be eligible for a bowl.
Saturday morning: No. 16 Georgia Tech at No. 9 Georgia
Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate. That's what the game is called and that's what you'll get. It's also an SEC/ACC measuring stick. Can the Yellow Jackets' triple-option attack give a Bulldogs' defense that was dominated by Florida's rushing attack a few weeks ago? Georgia has more talent, but in rivalry games, it isn't all about the talent level.
Saturday early-afternoon: Notre Dame at USC
If you are watching the Trojans battle the Irish at home, you might want to check out the Egg Bowl to see if Ole Miss can bounce back from the Arkansas shutout to beat No. 4 Mississippi State, whose only big win was against an Auburn squad that could have four losses after playing No. 1 Alabama Saturday night. That's not a tremendous resume for the Bulldogs. A dominant win against Ole Miss is probably required for them to stay in the top four.
Saturday late-afternoon: No. 15 Auburn at No. 1 Alabama
Let's just hope it's as good as it was last year! Lane Kiffin and the Crimson Tide are still No. 1 despite only one win over a current top 25 team (Mississippi State), so they need to make a statement when the entire nation is watching in primetime.
Saturday evening: Utah State at No. 23 Boise State
The Broncos control their destiny in the Mountain West Conference, but the 9-3 Aggies might have something to say about that. Utah State has won five in a row and possess the conference's best defense, allowing 18.3 points per game while Boise State is ninth nationally, averaging 40 points per game. With a win, the Broncos are in the MWC championship game. If Utah State wins and gets some help, it could take that spot.
