While the Trojans have lost each of the last two meetings with the Bruins, USC nabbed one of UCLA's best recruits on Monday in Houston-area cornerback prospect John Plattenburg. He spoke to USCfootball.com earlier in the day to explain why he flipped commitments one month before National Signing Day.
"It was tough because I love those guys at UCLA," said Plattenburg. "But you know, things change. I've always grown up a USC fan, and my mom went there so my family is all USC.
This most recent acquisition comes along the weekend commitments of No. 2 ranked TE Bryce Dixon at the Army All-American Game along with Long Beach native CB/WR Rahshead Johnson.
At 5'10", 180 pounds, Plattenburg is the 28th ranked cornerback in the country according to 24/7sports and also stands as the 44th rated player in the state of Texas.
His recent decision to transfer came from confidence he has behind the coaching changes USC has taken under Steve Sarkisian, who's beginning to assemble what Rivals.com has as the 21st-ranked recruiting class at this point in the process.
"When Coach [Steve Sarkisian] and Coach [Keith] Heyward ended up taking over from Washington, I just knew in my heart that USC would be the best for for me."
Assuming he stays with USC, Plattenburg and Mater Dei High School standout Jonathan Lockett stand as the Trojans top cornerbacks coming to campus from the 2014 Recruiting Class.
The next challenge will involve luring five-star talent Adoree' Jackson from Garden Serra.
Jackson named USC as one of his final six schools and would certainly be quite the addition to the secondary, especially following his strong performance at this year's Under Armour All-American Game in Tampa, Florida with an interception and overall strong week of practice.
