The University of Southern California will kick off #WePlay125 from the historic Coliseum venue, the Trojans host Washington State for the opening home game of the season. Facing the Cougars for the first time since 2010 due to a scheduling imbalance, the Trojans return home from Hawaii confident and well prepared for this Pac-12 affair.
This is the 90th anniversary of USC's first season playing football in the historic stadium and it is the first Trojan game there since an agreement this summer to fully operate and renovate the Coliseum. Expect the riled-up players to come firing out of the tunnel under the direction of LB Hayes Pullard and the ferocious ball-hawking "52" defense.
Head coach Mike Leach's Washington State squad, coming off a seven-point opening loss at Auburn, features a wide-open aerial offensive attack directed by QB Connor Halliday, who has 25 career TD passes and is 13th nationally in both passing yards and total offense, after throwing 65 passes last week. His top target so far has been WR Gabe Marks (16th nationally in receptions), while last seasons leading target Brett Bartolone returns on offense.
As part of USC's 125th anniversary of athletics celebration, dating to the first football game in 1888, football alumni will be honored on the field during the game. The current group of players are led by the fearsome foursome of captains in Center Marcus Martin, WR Marqise Lee, OLB Devon Kennard and LB Hayes Pullard.
