In the middle of a crucial three-game home stand, the Trojans will look to bounce back following a conference loss last week by facing an unfamiliar foe in Boston College of the ACC. This stands as only the fourth meeting ever between the clubs, with USC winning all three previous meetings including the 2009 Emerald Bowl.
The Trojans 5-2 scheme under Clancy Pendergast leads the country in sacks and rushing defense and amongst the top ranks overall in tackles for loss, total defense, pass efficiency defense, scoring defense and turnover margin this year.
Despite a strong defensive showing, the Trojans offense has garnered much of the negative discussion this past week of practice coming off a 54-yard passing performance. Now with Cody Kessler under center as the starting quarterback, the offense should be more tailored to Kessler's specific strengths in the play-action passing game.
This can be accomplished by establishing the rushing game with Tre Madden (32 carries last week) along with freshman Justin Davis and Buck Allen providing great change of pace in the backfield. Despite the strong running game, some of USC's top targets (Agholor, Rogers, Grimble) should certainly see more touches this afternoon.
