De La Salle outside linebacker Michael Hutchings, who was the 2012 Cal-Hi Sports Mr. Football, signed with USC Wednesday morning.
Hutchings is a four-star recruit listed at 6-foot-2, 210-215 pounds. He will likely play outside linebacker for USC, but he played inside and outside backer for the four-time defending CIF Open Division champs.
He also lined up as far back from the line of scrimmage as 15 yards. His stature and ability to cover in space should make him a great fit in Clancy Pendergrast's attempts to slow spread offenses.
ESPN and Rivals both have him as a Top 100 player, ranking him No. 4 and No. 6 at the outside linebacker position. Scout lists him as the No. 8 OLB and the 109th player in the 2013 class.
Hutchings finished this season with 113 tackles, 3.5 sacks and three interceptions while registering several big hits. He also played tight end and running back and displayed his athleticism by returning kicks, including a 99-yard touchdown return.
