Another day, another college football award watch list. This time, it's for top DB's in the country, and USC has two men on the list: senior safety T.J. McDonald and junior cornerback Nickell Robey. Quick background on the Thorpe Award:
The Thorpe Award is named after history's greatest athlete, Jim Thorpe, and is presented by the Jim Thorpe Association in Oklahoma City. Thorpe excelled at every sport in which he competed, including football at which he played on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. The 2012 Olympics mark the 100-year anniversary of Thorpe winning gold in the decathlon and pentathlon at the Stockholm Olympics.
On the heels of being named to the Nagurski watch list, it comes as little surprise to see McDonald and Robey on the Thrope watch list.
This spring, coach Lane Kiffin said the secondary is "the best they're playing since we've been here."
Here's hoping the leaders of the Trojan secondary keep it up this fall.
