As expected, Matt Barkley's career is over at USC...
For weeks, Kiffin said that he expected Barkley, who suffered a sprained shoulder joint in the Nov. 17 game against UCLA, to be ready for the Sun Bowl, even though that injury sometimes takes two months to heal.
Barkley didn’t practice on Wednesday, though, and after Thursday’s practice, Kiffin gave the nod to Wittek.
"I worked as hard as I could to come back for this game," Barkley said, "but nature is not allowing it and doctors aren’t allowing it, which is the most important thing. They’re looking out for my best interest, and I trust their judgment. As much as I want to play and get back, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen."
Matt Barkley will go down as one of the great Trojans.
Barkley was the face of this program when the sanctions hit. He was gracious and stayed positive in the face of the draconian hit by the NCAA. His announcement last December of his return for his senior season left us exhilarated. The dreams of what might have been...instead it looked like Barkley regressed.
Who knows why.
We wish him luck in the NFL. This fan base will support him like no other...Barkley is the antithesis of Reggie Bush.
We were lucky to have him.
Good Luck Matt!
