Scroggins has Thumb Surgery, out 6-8 weeks

This is surprising...

Jessie Scroggins underwent thumb surgery Thursday morning and is out indefinitely. A cynic might argue it does not affect the backup battle after Cody Kessler's strong performance Monday night in the scrimmage.

But Lane Kiffin said he is not sure who the backup quarterback will be. During yesterday's practice, Kessler was 11 for 13 while Max Wittek was 8 for 9 with a drop. Wittek will probably get a fairer shot at the next scrimmage with only three quarterbacks instead of four. If Scroggins needed to repair the ligament he would be out 6-8 weeks.

I would hate to have to burn a kids redshirt because of of this, but it is what it is.

Disappointing to be sure.
