We had been reading for weeks that the Dallas Cowboys were on the Tyron Smith bandwagon. But as draft day drew closer we started hearing that the Cowboys might be looking at other positions. The we started hearing that Smith might be dropping in the draft.
All for naught...Smith went where many of the pundits said he would...to Dallas.
Yesterday Smith traveled to Dallas to meet with his new team.
A few hours after the Cowboys put together the photo op for Tyron Smith to hold his No. 77 jersey for the first time, while being flanked by Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones and Jason Garrett, the rookie first-round pick was back at school.
While picks in the second and third round were flying off the board Friday, offensive line coach/running game coordinator Hudson Houck was standing in the offensive line meeting room, going over the basics with Smith about the Cowboys’ offense.
The Cowboys got their man.
Smith is confident about his future in Dallas...
Here is a little more...
On who he talked to after being picked by the Dallas Cowboys and his thoughts on being drafted by them:
"I talked to the head coach, (Jason) Garrett, and it was very exciting to get that phone call. Basically all that energy I had built up being ready for that phone call; it felt good for my family and I’m ready to go to work."
On how early when the Cowboys were on the clock to make their selection did he get the call:
"I didn’t get the call until the card went in."
On if Dallas was the team that he was expecting to end up with:
"I didn’t know where I was going to end up."
On if he remembers meeting Jason Garrett and his staff at his Pro Day:
"I talked to them for a little bit, but not so much. They told me they wanted to get to the Super Bowl and they wanted to work."
It is hard not to be stoked for Tyron!
We wish him all the luck in the world!
