Trojans in the NFL: Cut down day

A couple of quick notes on our mates in the NFL...

Lots of movement out there with some former Trojans as NFL teams need to trim their rosters.

We all know about Matt Leinart being released by Arizona and now signing with Houston (Joey will have more on this later today) , This is the best best for both parties.

Patrick Turner was cut by the Dolphins...

Turner, considered an underachiever at USC as well, was active for just two games last season, when he was limited to special teams. He had offseason back surgery and made strides in his route-running while studying newcomer Brandon Marshall, but it wasn't enough to earn Turner, the Dolphins' tallest receiver at 6-5, another shot.

Turner was ultimately picked up by the Jets. This is mind boggling to me as a Jets fan Turner is slow when compared to Clowney but Clowney is making something like 800k so this is really a money move.

Chauncey Washington was cut by the Jets, and he is not happy...

The Jets will waive running back Chauncey Washington, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. Washington is apparently pretty angry about the decision, and he has good reason to be. He's outplayed drafted rookieJoe McKnight by a wide margin, and McKnight probably won't see the field all season. In the end, New York decided to stick with McKnight and Danny Woodhead, who can also play receiver.

I don't blame him one bit. McKnight may bring the Jets more "on field options" but its not like he has performed better than Washington during camp. That McKnight survived with all the negative press is also a surprise to me. When former Trojan great and current Jets coach Dennis Thurman hammers you on HBO's Hard Knocks that is saying something.

Jeff Byers and Kevin Ellison were both cut by the Seahawks...

John David Booty was cut by the Texans...

Drew Radovich was cut by Minnesota...

Nick Howell was cut by Tennessee...

In the guess who got a job department...

Pat Ruel was named the OL coach for Seattle. I wonder what the backstory was there with Alex Gibbs suddenly "retiring".
