Behind solid pitching USC split their home-and-home series against Pepperdine last night at Dedeaux Field.
unior left-hander Anthony Vasquez (San Antonio, Texas/Texas A&M) pitched a career-long 7 2/3 innings Wednesday as the USC Trojans beat the Pepperdine Waves (ranked No. 24 in the nation by Rivals.com), 5-1, in nonconference action at Dedeaux Field. Vasquez tied a career best with seven strikeouts, allowing one run on eight hits with no walks as the Trojans snapped a five-game losing streak against the Waves.
USC improved to 6-4 on the year while Pepperdine fell to 6-3.
Senior Derek Perren (Chatsworth/Granada Hills HS/L.A. Pierce College) went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI while sophomore Robert Stock went 1-for-3 with a home run and struck out the side in the ninth as a relief pitcher.
So, SC goes on the road to play Winthrop for a three game set. Things need to get a bit more stable before conference play starts towards the end of the month.
